4 years

Four years ago today was the most horrific day of my life. I hope ever! Four years later, the future has never looked brighter, and for that I am blessed! When Luke was hurt four years ago, the doctors told us to expect Luke to recover for about two years, after that, well you get what you get, according to them!! They sure were not very optimistic either about the recovery he was going to get. If there is one thing I have learned in this journey, no one is control but God, and well, there is NOTHING he can not do. I mean, how can a person be shot at point blank range in the head, and first of all survive, but a month later be making an amazing recovery. Or how about this little boy who was born without part of his brain, http://www.aolnews.com/2011/02/12/chase-britton-boy-without-a-cerebellum-baffles-doctors/?icid=maing%7Cmain5%7Cdl2%7Csec1_lnk3%7C43665
Or what about the article in the paper a few weeks ago about an umpire who suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury and six years later he woke up and his eyes worked again!! Amazing miracles!!

Four years later, Luke continues to improve. In July he was using his hands to tell us yes or no, today he uses his words to say yeah and no! We will NEVER give up on that kid! As long as he has the fight in him to continue to work hard every day to improve we will be right there holding his hand (and not just so he doesn't pinch us:) We will continue to put our hope in God, the one who made a blind man see, made a deaf man hear, cured a leper, and performed many other miracles. I know He has bigger and better plans for our son than we could ever imagine. That much I believe! We will wait for His guidance, and where he leads us we will follow.

Yes, we lost a lot that day in March 2007 when Luke was hurt. We lost our son as we had known him for six and a half years. However, what we have been given is so much more. We were given a second chance with our son. We were given the chance to have ringside seats to an amazing story of healing and hope. We were given the chance to see what perseverance really means through a now ten year old boy who perseveres every single day in everything he does. We were given the understanding of what grace and mercy is really all about. We were and still continue to be humbled more than words can say by our family, friends, and everyone who has never left our sides throughout this journey. We have seen the healing hand of God. We are blessed BIG! Here is to another year of progress for Luke!

"People could view this as a tragic story. But that depends on how you look at life. You can be angry or you can appreciate what you have been given," she said (quoting the mother in the story above.)

"Motherhood is about raising and celebrating the child you have, not the child you thought you would have. It's about understanding that he is exactly the person he is supposed to be. And that, if you're lucky, he just might be the teacher who turns you into the person you are supposed to be." ~The Water Giver~
(Thanks Julie for the great quote!)

Wow, those are two wonderful quotes! The story of the other little boy is amazing. It's hard to believe it has been four years since Luke's accident. You're right he does look so much older now but so cute in both those pictures! You are such a special and amazing family. I always look forward to reading your words Stacey. You all continue to be in my prayers!
Love and hugs,
Nancy
